About the character
Vitamin Sui is a japanese indie Vtuber who make music, sing, draw, and stream games! I started to be interested in her because of her cover of hp! I also really like her karaoke streams and her gameplay streams of story based games!! She can speak english to a certain extent so you should check her out!
Concepts
This art was meant to a reference to her original song "Spacewalk" I tried drawing Sui related to space! My initial idea was Sui wearing the astronaut suit, but because Sui's intro says "Life form", it makes me think of something non human, so i drew Sui outside of the suit instead!
Instead of drawing Sui directly on the space, i drew her on the reflection of someone else space suit helmet! This idea comes from a fanart i saw on twt tl (i do not have the image nor the link to that tweet now sorry...!) of Hoshirube Sho (from Nijisanji) in front of someone in a space suit!!! It was really good art! I hope i can see it again...!
Progress
This art took WAYY too long, and it simply because of i was despairing drawing that space suit helmet LOL. Even starting this art took way too long, i only started drawing this because Kachika-san did a twitter space, and when i joined, they seemed to be drawing something, so i started drawing too. (PS: Please check their art it's awesome)
I used a reference when drawing the body! I want Sui to look like she is leaning into the space suit! I thought it was hard to draw but unexpectedly it was quite easy and i like the result. From the speedpaint you can see i struggled to pick whether sui leaning in or leaning out, but i ended up picking sui leaning in! I also feel like i did a good job with making the flowiness of the dress and the apron!
What's really hard to do is decide which clothes i use for this piece. Sui has 3 types of clothes, the 2D vtuber on, the 3D vtuber one, which is the 2D clothes without the poncho (?), and the other one on the Vitamin Sui website! I decided to draw without the poncho because the Sui i am familiar with is the 3D Sui! (and also the poncho is simply hard to draw because of the frills and that angle plus the no gravity of the space w)
I also had a hard time with the hair because Sui has this some kind of wolfcut hairstyle and i both don't know how to draw it in that angle and how to draw it floating in space. I think it ended up pretty cute though! The space suit helmet was HELL. i tried searching for reference and they always have different shapes for some reason, so i tried to search for the one that doesn't look too modern because just a circle is really boring imo, but searching for the right ref especially the same kind of helmet but just in different angle because i need to know how the logic is, is hell...
For the space background i just used the same material i've been using for the hair material because i am lazy w. I am concerned with the reflection, i am scared that it won't look like a reflection... I sure hope it looks like one.
I am really happy with this art! Sui also seems happy, and confirmed that she is in fact able to be in space without a space suit! I am happy that the interpretation match!
